โครงสร้างเวลาเรียนตามหลักสูตรแกนกลางการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐาน พ.ศ. 2551 ในปัจจุบัน ได้กำหนดกรอบโครงสร้างเวลาเรียนรวม สำหรับระดับประถมศึกษาไม่น้อยกว่า 1,000 ชั่วโมงต่อปี ดังนี้ รายวิชาพื้นฐาน 840 ชั่วโมงต่อปี แบ่งเป็น ภาษาไทย ป.1 – 3 จำนวน 200 ชั่วโมงต่อปี ป.4 – 6 จำนวน 160 ชั่วโมงต่อปี คณิตศาสตร์ ป.1 – 3 จำนวน 200 ชั่วโมงต่อปี ป.4 – 6 จำนวน 160 ชั่วโมงต่อปี วิทยาศาสตร์ ป.1 – 6 จำนวน 80 ชั่วโมงต่อปี สังคมศึกษา ศาสนา และวัฒนธรรม ป.1 – 6 จำนวน 120 ชั่วโมงต่อปี สุขศึกษาและพลศึกษา ป.1 – 6 จำนวน 80 ชั่วโมงต่อปี ศิลปะ ป.1 – 6 จำนวน 80 ชั่วโมงต่อปี การงานอาชีพและเทคโนโลยี ป.1 – 3 จำนวน 40 ชั่วโมงต่อปี ป.4 – 6 จำนวน 80 ชั่วโมงต่อปี ภาษาต่างประเทศ (ภาษาอังกฤษ) ป.1 – 3 จำนวน 40 ชั่วโมงต่อปี ป.4 – 6 จำนวน 80 ชั่วโมงต่อปี กิจกรรมพัฒนาผู้เรียน 120 ชั่วโมงต่อปี รายวิชา/กิจกรรมเพิ่มเติม ไม่น้อยกว่า 40 ชั่วโมงต่อปี
หลักสูตรแกนกลางการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐาน พุทธศักราช ๒๕๕๑ ได้ก าหนดโครงสร้างเวลาเรียนพื้นฐาน ซึ่งระบุการจัดเวลาเรียนของแต่ละกลุ่มสาระการเรียนรู้ เป็นกรอบทิศทางในการพัฒนาหลักสูตรสถานศึกษา ส่วนรายวิชาเพิ่มเติม และกิจกรรมพัฒนาผู้เรียน สถานศึกษาสามารถจัดให้เหมาะสมสอดคล้องกับวิสัยทัศน์และ บริบทของสถานศึกษาโดยการก าหนดเวลาเรียนในแต่ละระดับการศึกษา ซึ่งสรุปได้ดังนี้ ระดับประถมศึกษา : ก าหนดกรอบโครงสร้างเวลาเรียนพื้นฐานส าหรับกลุ่มสาระการเรียนรู้ ๘ กลุ่ม มีเวลาเรียนรวม ๘๔๐ ชั่วโมงต่อปี กิจกรรมพัฒนาผู้เรียน ๑๒๐ ชั่วโมงต่อปี และรายวิชา/กิจกรรมที่ สถานศึกษาจัดเพิ่มเติมตามความพร้อมและจุดเน้นไม่น้อยกว่า ๔๐ ชั่วโมงต่อปี รวมไม่น้อยกว่า ๑,๐๐๐ ชั่วโมงต่อปี ระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้น : ก าหนดกรอบโครงสร้างเวลาเรียนพื้นฐานส าหรับกลุ่มสาระการเรียนรู้ ๘ กลุ่ม มีเวลาเรียนรวม ๘๘๐ ชั่วโมงต่อปี (๒๒ หน่วยกิต) กิจกรรมพัฒนาผู้เรียน ๑๒๐ ชั่วโมงต่อปี และ รายวิชา/กิจกรรมที่สถานศึกษาจัดเพิ่มเติมตามความพร้อมและจุดเน้นปีละไม่น้อยกว่า ๒๐๐ ชั่วโมงต่อปี รวมไม่น้อยกว่า ๑,๒๐๐ ชั่วโมงต่อปี ระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลาย : ก าหนดกรอบโครงสร้างเวลาเรียนพื้นฐานส าหรับกลุ่มสาระการเรียนรู้ ๘ กลุ่ม มีเวลาเรียนรวม ๓ ปี จ านวน ๑,๖๔๐ ชั่วโมง (๔๑ หน่วยกิต) กิจกรรมพัฒนาผู้เรียน ๓๖๐ ชั่วโมง และ รายวิชา/กิจกรรมที่สถานศึกษาจัดเพิ่มเติมตามความพร้อมและจุดเน้นปีละไม่น้อยกว่า ๑,๖๐๐ ชั่วโมง (๔๐ หน่วยกิต) รวม ๓ ปี ไม่น้อยกว่า ๓,๖๐๐ ชั่วโมง
